An overbed table is a height-adjustable table on a C- or H-shaped base that slides under the hospital bed so the tabletop sits over the patient. Patients use it for meals, reading and personal items; staff use it as a work surface. Look for a wide height range, locking castors, a wipe-clean top and, if needed, a tilting top or storage drawer.

A geri chair, short for geriatric chair, is a padded reclining chair on castors for older or frail patients who should not sit in an ordinary chair. It reclines, often has a tray and footrest, and lets staff move the patient between rooms. Hospitals and long-term care facilities use geri chairs and medical recliners to get patients out of bed safely.
